There are four major types of amateur observing:

Bright Star Observing with your unaided eyes without optical aids
Bright Star Observing with binoculars
Bright Star Observing with telescopes
Bright Star Observing with cameras that use film and electronic technologies

Each type of observing is based on learning how to use different types of observing equipment. The learning and fun never stops in observational astronomy and each type of observing provides new observing and learning experiences to enjoy.
