Spectra L200 Spectrograph
Slit and Mirror Optical Alignment

This web page shows work-in-progress of building and testing the Spectra L200.

Below are photos of the unpainted Spectra L200 that was put together to check the optical alignment.

Slit Rotation Adjustment
A paper target is placed at the end of the L200 opposite of the slit. The slit is closed until the diffraction pattern is visible. The slit is rotated so the laser diffraction pattern is vertical.

Note that I that I screwed up the top on the slit adjustment and as a result I cut a grove in it to adjust it using a screw driver.

Mirror Adjustment
A paper target is placed at the end of the L200 where the grating will be installed. The mirror is adjusted until the laser beam is centered on the target.

The grating and collimation lens is mounted. Black paper is used as a light gasket on each side during this testing phase. The L200 is ready for the adjustment of the grating.

See Marco Leonardi How I Found the Zero Order and Spectrum YouTube Spectra -L200 video for the adjustment of the grating.
