Lucky Lafayette!  Usually rare astronomical phenomena are only visible "from the Siberian-Mongolian border" or "at 3 a.m. on a worknight, which turns cloudy at 2:55".  Not this time!  Lafayette was almost exactly centered on the path of the eclipse, and the midpoint of the event occurred within 1 minute of noon (OK, so we're so far from the center of our time zone that the event actually occurred closer to 11:15 solar time :).  Eclipse day morning found the Wabash Valley Astronomical Society setting up telescopes in the middle of Purdue's campus under absolutely cloudless skies.  Small morning crowds...
