Membership Information

Membership in the N.A.A. is open to anyone with an interest in astronomy. Yearly dues are $24 for an individual and $36 for a family membership. A family must reside at one address, and a family membership entitles all family members to inclusion in all N.A.A. activities.

Each membership includes a subscription to our monthly newsletter, The Focal Plane; inclusion in N.A.A. sponsored field trips and other activities; the potential to use the club's observatories on one's own (a personal key is issued to any member who demonstrates the ability to use either facility correctly); use of the club library of over 450 books, 300 periodicals, video recordings, and observing equipment; and use of other private observing sites ("dark sky sites") which the N.A.A. has set up. The N.A.A. is a member society of the Astronomical League, a nation-wide federation of astronomy clubs which publishes its own newsletter, sponsors national and regional conventions, and has numerous other benefits; N.A.A. members can individually join the League through the club and receive all League benefits at a notable discount over the normal individual membership fee. Discounts on subscriptions to Astronomy and Sky & Telescope* magazines and other astronomy materials purchased at group rates are also available for club members.

Our regular membership year begins in September, but you may join at any time. Members who joined during the year will be asked to renew at September, but their renewal rate will be reduced to "refund" the unused fraction of the year. Three times per year members are also invited to take part in our group subscription to Astronomy magazine at a notably reduced rate; if you include payment for Astronomy magazine at other times, they will be sent in at the next group subscription submission (immediately after the October, March and July regular meetings).

A Note: Don't feel that you have to know all about astronomy to join the N.A.A. Many of our members knew little about the subject when they joined; they joined to learn more about astronomy by sharing it with more experienced amateurs, a method often more fun and efficient than studying on one's own.

How To Join

If you are interested in joining the N.A.A., click HERE to access a printable membership form. Follow the instructions on the pop-up page to access, fill out and print the form, and bring it and your payment to any of our regular monthly meetings to join up. If you can't make it to a meeting, you may also follow the instructions on the form to join by mail.

*Sky & Telescope magazine is available to N.A.A. members at a reduced rate, but orders are NOT placed through the club. Members can order and renew a subscription directly from Sky & Telescope by phone 800-253-0245. Simply indicate membership to the Naperville Astronomical Association while ordering to receive the current discounted rate. Please DO NOT include orders for Sky & Telescope with membership dues.
