Comet Hale-Bopp, photographed from Henry Coe State Park, California by David Smith, March 1997. Note the straight blue ion tail, and the white, fan-shaped dust tail. In the upper center is the North America Nebula, and Deneb to the upper left of that. This is about a 10-minute exposure on Kodak 400 print film, with a 55mm f/1.8 lens.
