H-R Calc for Windows 2
Plots and makes easy the study of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram.
Allows you to understand and establish a relation between mass, brightness and class of stellar objects; includes a database featuring the most commonly known stars. Also enables the comparison of star diameters with our Sun. See a screenshot.
Shareware, without restrictions; Windows 95 and above; 320 KB.

Visual Planets 2.0
Superb. Explains with illustrations the astrophysics of the Sun and solar system planets (structure, atmosphere, rings and satellites). Also gives information on the mythology and the spacecraft missions aimed at each one.
At last, it supplies tables of statistical data and the option to compare the size of each planet with our one. See a screenshot.
Shareware, stops after 30 days; Windows 95 and above; 3.2 MB.

Solar System 1.0a
Plots the gravitational behaviour of celestial bodies, allowing the user to construct new models by feeding his own values.
It comes with a few pre-programmed models. For instance, what would happen if a new planet, lost in space, was to approach our solar system?
Or, how would behave a binary system, in which each star was orbited by a planet?
Solar System allows you to visualize the effect. See a screenshot.
Freeware; Windows 95 and above; 397 KB.

Galactic Viewer
[NEW ADDITION]
«A simple application that allows you to view the Milky Way Galaxy from overhead and zoom in and out.
Produces a rather detailed output with scale bar, various telescope objects and depicts the galaxy´s spiral arms.» Star Trek fans will optionally like to see the fictitious boundaries of the several civilizations overlaid.

Freeware; Windows; Aprox. 1MB.

ChView 2.1.1
ChView is intended as a three-dimensional aid to: viewing some of the nearer stars of our galaxy; navigating the distances between them; and accessing basic information. Data files provide nearly 8,500 stars and other celestial objects believed to lie within 150 light-years (ly) of Earth, in a 300-ly diameter sphere.

Freeware; Windows 95 and above; 277 KB + catalog.

Planetas
Application in Portuguese. Shows a sequence of high resolution images of the planets with a brief description and a suggestive(?) sound track of Star Trek. You will like to have it running should you ever organize an exhibition on Astronomy. See a screenshot.
Freeware; DOS; 2 MB.

Our Cosmohood 2.4
Classical cosmology program - the first version dates back to 1992, the latest release is from 1999. It offers a 3D model of the closest 2368 galaxies and an animation of a guided visit where, step by step, an explanation is provided on the organization and structure of the nearby universe.

Shareware, without restrictions; DOS; 128 KB.

Newton 1.0
Program identical to Solar System. Simulates the orbits of masses in space. Allows the modification of parameters and the creations of new models. See a screenshot.
Freeware; Windows 3.1; 130 KB.

Moovastar, Resolution and others...
[NEW ADDITION]
Using the Bright Star Catalogue (down to mag. 6.5) and the proper motion of the stars Moovastar simulates star positions in the future and past. You can choose a region of the sky, set the limiting magnitude and set a time sequence (time step, number of steps, and step interval). If the program doesn't run you probably need to install some Visual Basic 6 support files (1043 KB) on your computer.
Resolution calculates the focal plane image diameter of an object given its angular size
in arcseconds and the focal length of the telescope. Resolution can also
calculate either arcseconds, distance or separation given two out of three
parameters.
Others programs offered by the same author include: Aview, Jupsat screensaver, Deep sky and Double star database (check the homepage).
See a screenshot.
Freeware; Windows 95 and above; 130 KB.
