POLL - North American inclination towards producing commercial astronomical software versus the European tendency to develop more freeware...
Considering the majority of commercial/paid for astronomical software seems to be produced in the USA and the vast majority of non commercial/free astronomical software is developed by European authors, which of the following options do you believe best explains this disparity?
1 - North Americans are more demanding and they have more money to spend. That is why. It is chiefly an economical issue.
2 - Europeans tend to see amateur astronomy more as an eclectic hobby and they are more prone to «sharing», whereas on the other side of the ocean amateur astronomy is much driven/centred on being a gadget selling business. It is chiefly a cultural issue.
3 - Both of the preceding mixed.
4 - None of the above. Amateur astronomy and the interest by the Cosmos in general are also about developing a sense of cosmopolitanism and universality. This question has no point as it includes a deplorable sense of sectarianism.
